Houston Breast Lift and Implants Specialist
For patients who would like their breasts to appear both perkier and fuller, combining a breast lift (mastopexy) with breast implants (breast augmentation) can be an ideal solution. As a highly-experienced plastic surgeon serving women in the Houston area, Dr. Scott Reis often recommends breast lift with implants to women who want a more youthful, voluminous silhouette.
Why Choose to Combine Breast Lift With Implants?
Many women are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts, wishing they were larger, fuller, and sat higher on the chest. Whether you were born with breasts that are smaller than you’d like, or you are troubled by the effects that age, gravity, or childbearing have had on your bustline, Dr. Reis can provide a solution.
By combining the placement of saline or silicone breast implants with a breast lifting procedure, Dr. Reis is able to achieve a more dramatic transformation than if the patient had opted for only a single breast surgery procedure. While breast augmentation can help make the breasts larger and more shapely, only a breast lift can raise the breasts and nipples to a more “perky” and youthful position. Many women also choose to combine breast lift, augmentation, and a tummy tuck or other body contouring procedure as part of a Mommy Makeover.
The Breast Lift With Implants Procedure
The procedure combining breast lift with the placement of implants takes place at Dr. Reis’ AAAASF-certified operating facility and is conducted while the patient is under total IV anesthesia. This is performed as an outpatient procedure.
To begin the procedure, Dr. Reis will make an incision and create a pocket in the breast area to accommodate the breast implant. Once the implant is placed, he will then move the patient’s nipple and areola to a higher position on the chest. Dr. Reis will meticulously lift and reshape the breast tissue to ensure ideal contours and symmetrical results.
In some cases, Dr. Reis may remove excess skin or alter the size of the areolas. Once he is completely satisfied with the results, Dr. Reis will close the incision with sutures.1,2
Recovery after Breast Lift With Implants
Following your breast augmentation with mastopexy surgery, you will remain at the surgery center until you have fully recovered from anesthesia. At that time, you will be able to go home in the company of a family member or trusted friend.
At home after breast surgery, you should rest as much as possible to encourage the healing process. You may feel tightness in the chest area: this is normal and should gradually subside over the course of a week or two.
You should expect to feel sore after your breast lift with implants, and Dr. Reis will prescribe medication to address your discomfort. You may also experience slight bleeding at the incision sites as well as swelling and discoloration. Laying and sleeping in a slightly elevated position will help with all of this, and you may also find that cold compresses are helpful.
Most patients can expect to be home from work for at least a week after cosmetic breast surgery. You should also avoid strenuous activity, lifting, and exercise for at least two months, but can start light exercise and cardio typically within 3 to 4 weeks.
Risks of Breast Lift With Implants
There is a risk of complications associated with any surgical procedure, but patients who entrust their cosmetic surgery to a highly-skilled surgeon like Dr. Reis have a lower likelihood of experiencing these risks.
Common risks of breast lift with implants surgery include:3
– Changes in sensation to the breasts or nipples
– Asymmetrical breasts or nipples
– Suboptimal scarring
– Risks specific to breast implants, such as capsular contracture (tightening of scar tissue around the implant) and implant rupture
