Brow Lift

Brow Lift Surgery in Houston

The eyebrows and forehead are a major source of facial expression, and they are also some of the first areas of the face to show signs of aging. Over time, diminished skin elasticity and gravity can cause drooping of the brows and wrinkling of the upper eyes and forehead, creating an aged, tired, or even angry appearance.

Fortunately for Houston-area residents, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Scott Reis can reverse these and other signs of aging with a brow lift procedure. Thanks to Dr. Reis’ experience and surgical skill, his patients emerge from brow lift surgery looking naturally more youthful and refreshed, never “pulled” or “tight.”

Benefits of a Brow Lift

A brow lift, also referred to as a forehead lift, does more than raise the position of the eyebrows—it addresses multiple signs of aging to the upper face, resulting in a more youthful and vibrant overall appearance. Dr. Reis’ patients enjoy a multitude of benefits from this facial plastic surgery procedure, including:

  • Improved shape of the eyebrow arch
  • Elimination of a “hooded” appearance to the upper eyelids
  • Smoothing or elimination of wrinkles between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, between the eyes, and across the bridge of the nose

The Brow Lift Procedure

The brow lift is an outpatient procedure performed under either local anesthesia or IV sedation. At his Houston practice, Dr. Reis performs both conventional and endoscopic brow lifts.

During a traditional brow lift, Dr. Reis makes a long incision along the scalp, which is hidden by the patient’s hairline. He then lifts the skin of the forehead to smooth wrinkles and elevate the eyebrows, trimming away excess skin before closing the incision with absorbable stitches and removable clips.

An endoscopic brow lift involves the creation of smaller incisions through which Dr. Reis inserts an endoscopic camera so that he can view the underlying structure of the forehead. He then uses very small instruments to lift skin and muscle away from the bone, tightening and elevating tissues to create a more youthful appearance. As with a traditional brow lift, Dr. Reis closes the endoscopic incisions with sutures and clips.1

Recovery After Brow Lift

After a brow lift, it is normal and expected for patients to experience mild to moderate discomfort, as well as bruising and swelling. This will gradually decrease over the course of seven to ten days, and Dr. Reis will prescribe pain medication to ensure patients’ comfort as they recover. Patients wear bandages over their brow lift stitches for roughly one week, at which point they will return to Dr. Reis’ office in Houston to have their progress monitored and surgical clips removed. Most of Dr. Reis’ patients feel comfortable returning to work and normal activity one week to ten days after brow lift surgery.2

Brow Lift FAQs

Who is a candidate for Brow Lift Surgery?

If you would like to address signs of aging to your upper face, a brow lift with Dr. Scott Reis may be the solution you seek. The ideal candidate for brow lift surgery:

  • Is in good overall health
  • Does not suffer from excessive tearing, dry eyes, or weakness of the eyelid muscles
  • Does not smoke or use nicotine products

Will I have scars after my Brow Lift?

Because incisions for a brow lift are placed behind the hairline, patients do not experience visible scarring after a brow lift with Dr. Reis. Dr. Reis is also careful to create incisions that do not damage hair follicles, so hair growth is not impacted by brow lift incisions. In very rare cases where a patient experiences suboptimal scarring, Dr. Reis offers post-operative Fractional Co2 Laser Resurfacing treatment for improved scar appearance.

Are there risks associated with Brow Lift Surgery?

There are risks and complications associated with any surgical procedure, but these risks are greatly reduced by working with a Board-Certified surgeon and carefully following all post-operative instructions. Risks associated with brow lift surgery include hair loss around the incisions, bleeding, infection, poor wound healing, and suboptimal scarring.3
